A fading past makes way for brighter future

A hunched elderly woman with lines criss-crossing her face wears a head scarf and a long checkered over-shirt. A teenage girl with large sunglasses, styled hair and a pink tank top leans on a railing, looking wistfully off into the distance. These two scenes capture the transition underway in St. Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city. Here those who survived  the cruelty and poverty of Soviet times live elbow to elbow with those who never experienced bread lines, Nazi sieges and mass purges.
