“Journalism Without Walls” is Stony Brook University School of Journalism project that gives students an opportunity to practice their craft outside of the confines of Long Island.

The goal is to give students a broader and deeper understanding of the world around them.

Previous projects have included a three-week journey along the legendary Silk Road in China, where students reported daily from their travelling newsroom, and a week-long trip to Louisiana’s Gulf region to look into the long term impact of the April 2010 BP oil spill.

This winter’s program took a group of students to Havana, Cuba to explore recent changes in a country that remains off limits to most Americans, even as it slowly opens up to the rest of the world.
