Francis Ekai

Francis EkaiFrancis Ekai , 37, is from Kalokol. He started working at the Turkana Basin Institute in May 2010 after previous encounters with Richard Leakey and other archaeologists. He walks with long strides, often in search of the bones or fossils hidden in the sands near the institute. Ekai dropped out of school after completing his primary education, but he knows his bones and can with ease distinguish between a hippo femur, a crocodile tooth and a rock. As a translator, Ekai was articulate, dependable, and did his job with humor and grace. That he knew the best places to go shopping was an added bonus. Ekai lives in Kenya with his three wives and 18 children.
