Isaiah Ewesit

Isiah EwesitIsaiah Ewesit is a fisherman, and also the head chef at the Turkana Basin Institute. He comes from several generations of fishermen, and often spoke of his love of the water. “It takes a strong heart to be a fisherman,” Isaiah said. And he has one. Always with a smile, Isaiah was incredibly attentive to student needs, setting out gluten-free and vegetarian dishes while keeping careful count of the students’ growing bar tab. He told the students he owns 200 goats. As journalists, we can’t prove that. But we can say he made an amazing upside down pineapple cake. Isaiah has a wife and four daughters, who live in Nariokotome on the other side of Lake Turkana.
